From an educational perspective, Bill received his Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan in 1979. His undergraduate studies earned him a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Regina in 1978 where he was the recipient of the Goldman Award as the most distinguished graduate in the program.

Bill began his legal career articling with Gauley, Dierker and Dahlem (now McDougal Gauley) in Saskatoon, where he practiced for two years.

In 1981 Bill joined Macleod Dixon in Calgary and became a partner of the firm in 1986, practicing in banking and commercial transactions.

From a leadership perspective, Bill has 15 years of full time experience. During his tenure as Managing Partner of Macleod Dixon Bill was involved in office openings and closings, growth domestically and internationally and ultimately the combination to form Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP, now recognized as the top legal brand in Canada by Acritas. Following the combination , Bill remained on the leadership team of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP and also served on the global Board of Norton Rose Fulbright (3800 lawyers and revenues approaching 2 billion dollars).

From a family perspective, Bill has been married to Cindy for 36 years and is the proud father of three grown daughters and three grandchildren at last count.
